A Mood Therapy Handbook

Moods can be very overwhelming, debilitating and uncontrollable.  Enduring the symptoms of depression and anxiety can slow down your life.  It becomes difficult to get out of bed, and navigating through the day can be exhausting. Going to or from any activity brings sadness, nervousness or both, with or without tears. You can feel like you’re in the black hole of an abyss, with a daily struggle trying to climb out to see the light of hope.  God given emotions are important, but when you are stuck with depression and/or anxiety it's not healthy for your brain.  There are many reasons for depressive and anxious moods, and giving understanding and hope for relief is a very important discussion.  Psychological research states that Cognitive Behavior Therapy is the best treatment and has many techniques and tools.

As a Cognitive Behavior Therapist (CBT), for my Christian clients the first technique I use to manage anxiety and depression is the process of becoming transformed (Romans 12:2).   Utilizing CBT, I add your Christian faith and call it Christian Method of Change (CMC).  This method assists in decreasing your symptoms by transforming your thinking, speaking, and behavior to become more positive, authentic, and automatic.

This process of being transformed will have you recognizing God's love for you, and understanding that He knows your feelings of despair and wanting to get better.  Changing anything about yourself is not easy, but please don't back away from a challenge.  You will receive your strength to succeed from the Trinity (God/Jesus/Holy Spirit).  The goal of CMC is to restore your life to peace, without those negative shifts in mood; and to provide the skills to maintain a positive one.  You will focus on apostle Paul’s words of“. . . put off your old self . . . to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self . . . ” – Ephesians 4:22-23

Caring for others is my service to God for His children.  It inspires me to hear a client say, “Thank you for giving me my life back.”  To extend my service, I wrote a guide to managing your anxiety and depression.  This blog presents excerpts from the manuscript.  You will read about and practice some of the tools and techniques.  I hope it is the beginning of a positive change so that you can continue on the road God plans for your life!
